How to Arrange a Bookshelf to Add Beauty in Your Room

For most people, books are like their best friends. A book is a friend who helps in understanding the true realities of life, yet also offers an escape from them at the same time. Some people are so fond of reading books that they cannot resist anything on the literature holders and literature displays. While they stuff their mind with all the information, they over stuff their bookshelves as well.

Bookshelves are a very important piece of furniture in a room. There are many people who have a separate library in their house. For those who do not have very big houses, living rooms or bedrooms are the best place for bookshelves. Yet, whether the latter help in enhancing the beauty of that room or do the opposite, depends on the way you arrange it in the room.

Component Shelf

The very first thing to consider about a bookshelf is its placement in the room. A shelf arranged in line with other similar furniture such as a cupboard or dresser might give a monotonous and cluttered look. You can place it with a computer desk as it is lower than the shelves usually. If it can be fixed into the wall, do not fix it lower and closer to the ground. It should be attached a little higher, about the level of your eyes.

Then, of course, the most important component of a shelf: the books and to our deLight, books come in all sizes and colors. Even the least colorful book adds a hint of class and elegance to the collection. Anyhow, gone are the days of typical vertical display. Today, not only do shelves come in innovative designs, people also prefer arranging their books in a mixed manner to create uniqueness and add style.

You can put some of your books vertically and lay some horizontally as well. It might sound a bit untidy, but it actually gives a very professional look. To onlookers, it may seem as if you read frequently.

If you really are heavy reader, then you might also have a heavy collection of books. Too many books can make the shelf clustered. Some space must always be left between the books in order to give a tidier look. When your books start to stick close together without space, it is time to get yourself another shelf.

To save up some space from an existing shelf, it is wise to take out all the magazines, comic books and journals up there and put them in a separate rack or cupboard.

The shelf should not look very stern, serious or boring. You can add some excitement and attraction by adding some display items at the end of a row. It is also creative to put them in between of the stacks in an artistic manner.

The key for changing the look of a bookshelf into a decorative item is change and creativity. Always keep things moving and the position changing. This way you will never get bored of your furniture, just like you would not with your favorite book.
